Worship Gathering
What to Expect
While all of life is an act of worship for the Christian, the Lord specifically commands each Christian to gather regularly for worship in a local church (Heb 10:24–25). This local, corporate expression of worship for Holy City Church (HCC) is our 10:30 AM Sunday corporate worship gathering. Saints and visitors gather to fellowship, sing, read Scripture, encourage and exhort one another, pray, sit under the preaching of God’s Word, and partake of the Lord’s Supper. HCC’s corporate worship gathering typically lasts about 2 hours.
HCC’s aim is for families to worship together because the preaching of God’s Word is for the entire household (Eph 5:22–6:4). Holy City does not offer childcare during our corporate worship gatherings, though we offer Scripture-related coloring sheets, crayons, children’s bulletins, and related books for young children to enjoy during the service. Each Lord’s Day, HCC has many children present in the corporate worship gathering, so saints are accustomed to the noise children might make! HCC does offer members and visitors the nursing mother’s room, fellowship hall, and church foyer—each with TVs live streaming the service—as options for parents who desire to watch the service but must also feed and/or train young children during the worship gathering.
In addition to our Sunday corporate worship gathering, multiple discipleship classes for children (2–11 yrs old) and youth (12–18 yrs old) meet at 9 AM, while the adults gather for the corporate prayer gathering.
Outside of Sunday gatherings, HCC has small groups that regularly gather in homes for fellowship, teaching, and prayer throughout the week. HCC also has occasional Wednesday night discipleship classes to provide more opportunities for members and visiting saints to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and to be equipped for the work of ministry.
